Upstairs Kindle, Downstairs Book

Before e-books, no one asked “Do you read hard back books or paper back books?” We just read books. Granted paperbacks were less expensive, but that was really the only difference. The experience was the same.

But the e-book reading experience is different. No better or worse, different. I LOVE my Kindle Paperwhite. For all the obvious reasons. It goes anywhere with me. I can read it outside in the sunshine. It contains a library of books. I can read it in the dark.

Being able to read in the dark is the reason my husband likes me to use it. Since I read before going to sleep every night, I can read as long as I want without disturbing him. So I try to only use my Kindle when I read in bed.

But recently, I have found myself with a lot of books (paperback and hard back). Several were Christmas gifts. I bought several because I like to hard copies of certain non-fiction books and specific authors. And my mother-in-law recently moved and gave away a lot of books. So I have about 10 books that I really want to read but require a book light if I read in bed. My husband doesn’t complain but he works very hard and doesn’t always sleep well, so I feel guilty using the book light.

Hence…upstairs I read on my Kindle and downstairs I read a hard copy book. I have always hesitated reading more than one book at a time. But I have found that reading a non-fiction and fiction book at the same time seems to work for me. So I can make my way through my stack of books…guilt-free.

In case your curious…right now I am reading This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger downstairs and Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty by Patrick Radden Keefe upstairs. Both are excellent!

Happy Reading!
