I do love Emily Henry's smart contemporary romance novels! Although Beach Read is my favorite (maybe because it was her first?), Happy Place is a close second.

Harriet returns to coastal Maine for a visit with her college friends - her best friends at their happy place where they have shared annual vacations for the last 10 years. Three best friends and their significant others. But Harriet and her fiancé, Wyn, have been keeping their breakup a secret. Although Wyn agreed to forgo this year's trip, he is talked into coming because the cottage is being sold and this is their last trip to their Happy Place.
Harriet & Wyn decide to keep their secret until the end of the week, less they ruin the trip down memory lane. But their attraction and love hasn't ended. Neither Harriet nor Wyn have been honest with each other (or themselves) about their breakup. How will they make it through the week if they are still in love but have lingering questions about their relationship?
While I enjoyed Happy Place a lot, I was frustrated by how much Harriet and Wyn kept from each during their relationship. For two people so much in love, they hold significant pieces of themselves. It reminded me the same dynamic in Wellness by Nathan Hill. It makes for good ‘reveals’ in novels however I find it frustrating and not believable as a reader.
